How Dermal Fillers Work

It is natural for our facial skin to lose subcutaneous fat when we age. When this happens, the muscles in the face begin to work very close to the skin surface. This is what makes the crow’s feet and smile lines very apparent when people age. The other thing that happens when we age is that the facial skin tends to stretch. This makes the skin to lose volume. This is where dermal fillers come in. Dermal fillers are used to reduce the appearance of the lines as well as to increase the facial volume.

Dermal fillers are cosmetic injectables that can contain ingredients that are either from synthetic sources or natural sources. These cosmetic injections are done in specific areas to make these areas appear fuller. There are different types of dermal fillers and they differ in the time of period that effects can be seen. Semi-permanent fillers tend to have effects for a period of 6 months while the permanent fillers tend to have longer lasting results of up to 2 years.

A lot of people are not able to differentiate between Botox and dermal fillers. These two cosmetic injections are very different. Botox is cosmetic injectables that are done around the skin surrounding the eyes and the forehead with an attempt to reduce wrinkle appearance. Botox makes the muscles in these areas immobile so that wrinkles do not form. Dermal fillers on the other hand, are injected to make the area of the skin appear plump and fuller and do not involve muscle immobility. When used in combination, these two cosmetic injections bring about very good results. This is because they both work differently to create a youthful appearance. This is probably why most people who want to stem off the effects of ageing tend to prefer to use these two cosmetic procedures together.

As mentioned earlier, there are two main types of dermal fillers. These are the natural and synthetic fillers. Hyaluronic acid is the most popular natural dermal filler. The best thing about natural cosmetic treatments is the fact that they do not cause allergic reactions in most cases. The downside however is the fact that these treatments do not have long lasting effects. Once you get these fillers, you will need to get another injection after a few months since this ingredient tends to break down and when it does, it takes the youthful appearance away with it. Synthetic fillers on the other hand, are considered to be permanent. The reason why wrinkles reappear is because as time passes, the skin continues to age. These fillers are however not the best since being permanent also means that their effects are permanent and therefore not easy to correct.
